The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee is gearing up this week for its first event without COVID restrictions since 2019.
But even though the restrictions have been lifted, the COVID contingency plans are still in place.
Race day is Wednesday, with the weather looking good so far with a chance of showers and temperatures in the mid-20s.
Committee vice-president and course captain, Ashley Peach, says the focus now is to ensure there is enough staff for the big day.
She says the committee has been working on backup plans in case key personnel, such as shooters and those who operate the safety boat and the judges’ boat, cannot attend.
The same goes for the crews, some of whom will have to dive into their reserve pools to fill their shells.
