The Liberal government is giving itself more time to fulfill a key UN peacekeeping pledge first made five years ago.
The commitment includes the provision of a rapid response force of 200 UN troops.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau first announced the pledge during a major peacekeeping meeting in Vancouver in 2017.

The government said at the time that the force, designed to respond to emergencies in peacekeeping missions, would be deployed within five years.
Still, the Department of National Defense says the cabinet recently gave itself another year to fulfill the commitment.
The government has not explained why the force has not yet materialized, although the UN says there is an ongoing need for such units.
