CHARLOTTETOWN, PA –
A Prince Edward Island brewery says a barrage of harassment that followed a visit by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ended in violence after someone smashed the windshield of the company’s van.
Lone Oak Brewing Company said in a Facebook post and photo Saturday that its driver found the van this morning with a web of cracked glass strewn from what appeared to be two points of impact.
The post said management was taking “necessary steps to keep its staff safe” and that the police had been notified of the incident.
The broken front window comes after the pub says it faced a flood of “negative and vulgar comments,” private messages and phone calls after staff posted photos of a July 22 visit by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The post said one photo had to be removed because it attracted comments sexualizing Lone Oak staff.
In a statement Sunday, Trudeau’s office said the threats and violence the pub has faced are unacceptable and that it’s encouraging to see the community supporting the business and condemning the attacks.
