Thunderstorm and tornado warnings are in effect for parts of west-central Alberta as severe weather moves east across the province.
A tornado was also seen touching down outside of Coronation, Alta. earlier Monday.
The weather service is also tracking a number of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, hail the size of a nickel to a ping pong ball and heavy rain.
Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in effect until 4:30 PM for:
- Lacombe County near Equville.
- Lacombe County near Lacombe, Blackfalds and Bentley.
- Brazeau County near Brazeau Dam.
- Brazeau County near Cynthia and Lodgepole.
- Yellowhead Co. near Minnow and Wolf Lakes and Elk River
- Clearwater County near Caroline and the James River Bridge.
- Clearwater County near Rocky Mountain House and Crimson Lake.
- MD on Lesser Slave River near Slave Lake and Saulteaux.
- MD of Opportunity near Wabasca – Desmarais and Sandy Lake.
- Northern Sunrise County near Cadotte Lake and Swampy Lake Reserve.
- Northern Sunrise County near the Utikoomak Reservations.
- Woodlands District near Benbow and Windfall.
- Woodlands County near Whitecourt and Blue Ridge.
- Yellowhead County near Peers and Niton Junction.
Environment Canada recommends taking cover immediately if threatening weather approaches, warning of heavy downpours causing flash flooding and damage or injury from large hail.
Lightning also kills and injures Canadians every year.
Heat warnings remain in effect for much of the province. Severe Thunderstorm Watches are also in effect for many areas.
