Toronto Blue Jays “dip their toes” in Juan Soto, deal could include Bo Bichette

Trade winds are blowing.

And with almost 24 hours until the deadline, MLB Network’s John Morosi was on FAN590 Monday talking about what the Jays are up to.

When asked if Juan Soto is a potential trade target for the Jays, Morosi said Toronto has “dipped its toes” in trade talks, but believes it’s more of an offseason move, if at all.

“As far as what the package is going to be, I believe based on what I’ve been told over the last few days that the Jays may have dipped their toe in there, there’s some interest, but they’re not substantially committed to Soto on a moment. What I think is involved, they will have to trade Beau Bichette. He had to be the piece.

“They need position players right now, and I think from the Nationals’ perspective, they’d prefer Bo over Teoscar (Hernandez) or (Lourdes) Gurriel. I think that’s probably where they are right now.

“I think where the Jays are now, unless you can make a second move that brings in a shortstop that you like, it’s going to be hard for me to see (happening).”

Starting pitcher and left-hander at the plate continue to be top targets for the Jays, Morosi noted, and Soto would fit at least one of those bills. If Soto isn’t moved before Tuesday night, I think it’s safe to say the Jays will be one of those teams heavily involved in trade discussions this offseason.

Morosi tweeted later that the Jays could put together a “competing offer” for Tigers starter Tarik Skubal, so that will be something to keep an eye on as well.
