items seized from the vehicle, including a loaded, sawed-off shotgun and an AR15-style rifle.

The call was about a possible impaired driver, but Kelowna RCMP found much more than just a driver who shouldn’t be behind the wheel.

Firearms, drugs, stolen property and two suspects who are prohibited from possessing firearms were found in their possession.

On Sunday, July 31, frontline officers responded to a call to a parking lot in the 1900 block of Pandosy and found a red Mercedes-Benz with mismatched license plates.

When officers approached the vehicle, the two men inside attempted to flee but were arrested at the scene.

Both men had mandatory firearms prohibitions, and one was released on warrants for possession of fentanyl and carrying a loaded stolen handgun. He had climbed into the trunk of the car to try to hide from the police.

After officers removed him from the trunk, Mounties found multiple firearms in the suspect’s gun range.

The other man was also on probation with the condition that he not possess weapons.

Among the weapons found in the search of the vehicle were an AR15-style rifle, a loaded pump-action rifle, an SKS-style semi-automatic rifle, and a .30-caliber semi-automatic rifle.

Copies of weapons and drugs, including methamphetamine and GHB, were also found, along with what appeared to be stolen property.

One officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest and was treated at a hospital and later released.

Kelowna RCMP are continuing to investigate and have not announced any new charges the men may face.
