Spotify is the favorite music streaming service for millions around the world. And it looks like the platform has finally decided to add dedicated play and shuffle buttons to playlists and albums. Until last year, Spotify automatically played albums and playlists on shuffle, which was really frustrating for those who wanted to listen to an album or playlist in chronological order.
They changed the behavior starting with Adele’s ’30’ album and removed the auto shuffle feature in favor of a combo play + shuffle button for Premium subscribers.
But according to a recent blog post from Spotify, the combined Shuffle + Play buttons will soon be separated so that users can easily choose between the two.
This new change will allow you to select your preferred mode at the top of playlists and albums and listen the way you want. Whether you love the joy of the unexpected with shuffle mode or prefer to listen to tunes in order by simply pressing play, Spotify has you covered.
While the move was welcomed by many, it’s interesting to note that the changes only apply to Premium users, meaning those on the free ad-supported tier are still at Spotify’s mercy. The update appears to be rolling out gradually for both Android and iOS users, which means it may take some time before the shuffle and play buttons are separated on your mobile device.
