Two fires displaced 8 people over the long weekend

Two rural fires displaced eight New Brunswick residents over the holiday weekend.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

A fire in St. John’s around 2 p.m. Sunday forced two adults and four children to find temporary emergency housing.

St. John Fire Platoon Chief Ed Moyer said firefighters responded to the call and extinguished the fire quickly.

The fire caused smoke damage to the four-unit building on Brydon Street.

The cause of the fire was a stove.

The six are provided with accommodation, food and transport by Red Cross volunteers.

A fire in Memramcook, about 15 kilometers southeast of Moncton, displaced two men.

Early Sunday, firefighters responded to a report of a fire that damaged a two-story building containing two apartments located along Highway 106 at La Vallee Route.

The cause of the second fire is unknown.

Both have received emergency accommodation and food through the Red Cross.
