Veterans Memorial Highway reopens after bushfire in Carbonear

The Veterans Memorial Highway was reopened as fire crews battled a brush fire in Carbonear last evening.

Around 5 p.m., emergency crews were called to Carbonear, where a fire broke out near Dairy Queen and Earle’s Riding Horses at the top of the hill.

The highway was closed for several hours and a water bomb had to be called in to put out the flames.

Meanwhile, the Bay d’Espoir highway remains closed due to a large amount of wind-blown smoke. Drivers are asked to avoid or leave the area.
