Winnipeg police: Teen charged after playground stabbing

A 13-year-old Winnipeg girl has been charged after a stabbing at a north-end playground.

According to police, officers were called Monday at 7 p.m. to the 600 block of Alfred Avenue for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a 13-year-old girl with multiple stab wounds. Police applied a chest seal to the wounds until an ambulance arrived. The teenager was taken to hospital in an unstable condition, but was later stabilized.

Police said another 13-year-old girl was found in the area and taken into custody, and a knife was found in the area.

Officers say the teenager confronted the victim and her 12-year-old friend at a playground in the 200 block of McKenzie Street, assaulted them and stole their property. Police believe the attack was unprovoked.

The 13-year-old suspect is charged with aggravated assault, two counts of uttering threats, two counts of robbery and assault on a law enforcement officer.

The teenager was taken into custody and the charges have not been proven in court.
