St. John’s Writer releases book about parents’ love story

A St John author is to release a new book based on his own family’s unique love story.

Love Will Out by David Michael is based on the unusual love story involving his Lebanese father and Jewish mother in St. John’s in the 1920s and 1930s.

Michael, a cousin of former NDP leader Lorraine Michael, says his parents lived on New Gower Street, where many Lebanese and Chinese families had settled at the time.

He says his parents’ love story was unique for its time, but with some eerie parallels to life today.

His mother’s family fled the Russians in Poland, while his father’s Christian family fled a different kind of persecution in Lebanon.

The opening will take place tonight at the Masonic Lodge. Doors open at 19:00
