A Brampton Transit bus was more than 30 minutes late on its route Saturday morning (Aug. 13) when a man who reportedly boarded without paying the fare got into an altercation with a passenger.

A short 4-second video posted on Reddit shows the inside of a Route 7 bus where two people are involved in a physical altercation.

The accident happened near the intersection of Queen St. East and Kennedy Rd. North.

Peel Regional Police confirm transport operators contacted police around 10am about a fight that had broken out on a bus.

However, police say the call was dropped before officers arrived on the scene because the man, who refused to pay the fare, fled.

Comments in response to the posted video indicated that the man in the high-vis orange T-shirt was homeless and entered the bus from the back door while it was being stopped.

The comments then explain that the driver stopped the bus until the person who got in through the back door left or paid the fare.

Another passenger on the bus, the man in the yellow hoodie, confronted the man in the orange shirt and told him to get off the bus.

Other comments indicated that the man in the orange shirt refused to get off the bus and that’s when the altercation took place.

Some viewers claimed it was the fault of the man who jumped on the bus from the back, while others blamed the bus driver for stopping the bus and demanding the fare.

“It’s the drivers fault… Why hold up a whole busload of ppl for a few bucks and some change????… it’s not like it’s coming out of her paycheck,” wrote one user.

Another user said: “The TTC has banned drivers from charging to prevent this situation. Stopping the bus and sitting there is such a ridiculous act and ruins everyone’s trip. Why be so petty for $3.25 that doesn’t go in your pocket?”
