India’s prime minister vowed yesterday to break the vicious cycle of poverty and transform his country into a developed nation in a speech to mark 75 years of independence from British colonial rule.
Speaking from the ramparts of Delhi’s Red Fort amid heightened security, Narendra Modi urged the country’s youth to “aim for big goals” and work to “create a new India”.
“This can-do generation can achieve any goal you can imagine,” Modi said in a marathon 88-minute address in Hindi, saying he wanted the country to “rise to new heights of prosperity.”
