Arctic runoff warnings have been issued for the north, central coast and interior regions of British Columbia

British Columbia’s northern, central coastal and interior regions are under Arctic leak warnings issued by Environment Canada on Sunday.

“Very strong outgoing winds of 80 km/h gusting to 110 developed across the mainland inlets of the North Coast and Central Coast (Saturday) overnight,” Environment Canada said in a warning.

“These strong winds, combined with temperatures near freezing, result in chill values near minus 15.”

As Sunday continues, arctic air will continue to sweep into regions dropping temperatures to near minus 20 with wind chills.

Avalanche Canada said arctic air will soon spread across the province.

“We will see a low-spin surface system off the coast of Vancouver Island and enveloping areas of snow and waves in southern coastal British Columbia and southern interior British Columbia,” Avalanche Canada said.

Members of the BC community are urged to prepare for the cold and possible snow.

“Minimize exposed skin with hats, scarves and sleeveless gloves,” warns Environment Canada.

“Anyone not dressed warmly is at risk of frostbite and hypothermia in cold weather. Be prepared for unusually cold temperatures and strong winds.”

Environment Canada still has 23 snowfall warnings in effect for much of British Columbia’s southern coast and interior regions.
