Alanis Morissette says she skipped Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show because of ‘anti-women sentiment’

Alanis Morissette took to Instagram to explain her absence from a tribute performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The Ottawa-raised singer was expected to join Olivia Rodrigo in a duet of You’re So Vain to pay tribute to fellow nominee Carly Simon.

But Morissette didn’t take the stage and later posted a message on Instagram alluding to an experience with the production team that brought back memories of a “pervasive anti-woman sentiment” she’s experienced in the entertainment industry.

Morissette wrote that she has “sucked more times than I can count” to perform in front of an audience over the years, but no longer needs to “spend time in an environment that diminishes women.”

She offered no further details about the behavior that led to her exit from the show. Rodrigo went on to perform Simon’s tribute solo.

Representatives for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
