Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for parts of southern Quebec, including Montreal, Vaudreuil, Richelieu and the Eastern municipalities.
The Met Office says between two and five millimeters is expected from Wednesday evening.
A special weather statement has also been issued as a system is expected to bring a mix of precipitation – including snow and ice pellets – from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, affecting areas including Mont-Laurier, Mauricie, Eastern Townships and Beauce.
This system can generate snow and ice pellets of about 15 centimeters in total.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, trails and parking lots will become icy, slippery and dangerous, according to Environment Canada.
“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve,” the agency said. “There could be a significant impact on peak-hour traffic in urban areas.”
