Adam Rich, who starred in the smash hit “Eight Is Enough,” has died … TMZ has learned.
A family member tells TMZ … Adam died Saturday at his home in the Los Angeles area. The family member did not release the cause of death, but a law enforcement source tells TMZ that someone came to his home and found him lifeless. The law enforcement source added … it wasn’t foul play.
Adam plays Nicholas Bradford, the youngest son in Eight is Enough. The series ran from 1977-1981.
Other credits include Code Red in 1981 and Dungeons & Dragons in 1983.
Adam made VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Child Stars, coming in at #73.
He retired from show business in the 1980s because he said he didn’t like the glare of the spotlight or, for that matter, anything to do with celebrity.
Adam started playing at Chatsworth High School in the San Fernando Valley. His drama teacher has also taught Kevin Spacey, Val Kilmer and other great actors.
Unfortunately, Adam had problems with substance abuse, which led to his arrest in 1991 after he smashed a pharmacy window in an attempt to obtain drugs. He was rescued by Dick Van Patten, his TV father on Eight Is Enough. He also had other legal problems.
Adam’s mantra – “Life is for living and I live my life to the fullest every day.”
Adam was 54. RIP
