Victoria Hospital: Four people are being treated after a hospital fire

Four people are being treated in emergency after a fire broke out at Victoria Hospital on Monday morning.

A news release from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) said the fire started on the sixth floor around 10:20 a.m. and was quickly extinguished. However, the sprinklers were activated and caused flooding and electrical problems.

WRHA noted that water from sprinklers affected several floors of the hospital.

Staff were able to evacuate 21 patients on the sixth floor and move them to another part of the hospital. Patients are expected to be able to return to their rooms later on Monday.

Due to the fire, one patient and three staff members were admitted to the emergency room

The WRHA said the hospital is still open for those who have appointments and need care, but visitors are not allowed in the hospital until Tuesday morning.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedics attended the hospital and are investigating the cause.
