Police have arrested two suspects in a Middle Gull Pond cabin burglary

RCMP have arrested two men believed to be responsible for a recent break-in at a cabin in the Middle Gull Pond area thanks in large part to the vigilance of a local cabin owner.

The owner of a cabin contacted the police at around 2 pm yesterday afternoon. The cabin owner described footprints in the snow traced to the cabin door, which had been forced open, and a number of items inside sitting in the snow, possibly ready to be taken.

Responding officers then received an update from the cabin owner who was following a suspicious ATV that was passing the property and refused to stop when he attempted to stop it.

Thanks to the information received from the owner of the cabin, the police blocked the road and stopped the ATV. Police said the two people in the machine were found in possession of stolen property and arrested. Twenty-four-year-old Keegan Seymour, who is already facing trial on a number of criminal charges, was arrested and held to appear in court on charges of breaking and entering and possession of stolen property.

The driver of the ATV, also 24 years old, has signs of drug impairment according to the RNLP. Police are awaiting test results to determine if impaired driving charges are appropriate. The man’s driver’s license was taken and the ATV seized and impounded. The accused was released on a charge of possession of stolen property.

Police later seized two long guns from another cabin where property suspected to have been stolen in a break-in was being stored. The investigation is ongoing, but no new charges are expected.
