The annual Lottery for highly coveted Half Corked Marathon tickets is back, live until Monday, January 23rd for interested participants to enter the race through the vineyards of the South Okanagan.
The Half Corked Marathon will take place on Saturday 27th May and will celebrate 15 years of running.
Tickets are distributed through a general lottery each year, and winners will be offered the opportunity to purchase.
“We are thrilled to welcome runners to the 15th annual Half Corked Marathon and are planning a great party to celebrate,” said Jennifer Busman, executive director of the Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association, in a press release.
“Inspired by the legendary Marathon du Medoc in Bordeaux, France, we are so proud to have created such an engaging and fun destination – one that keeps participants coming back year after year – here in the beautiful wine country of Oliver Osoyoos.”
The marathon, which costs $265 plus tax, is a run that takes participants through the vineyards and valleys of some of the South Okanagan’s iconic wine regions, including the Black Sage and Golden Mile Benches, along with stretches along the beautiful Okanagan River.
There are wineries along the entire 24km route where runners can take the opportunity to sample.
Runners are encouraged to dress bright and fun in creative costumes and prizes will be awarded for best individual costume, best team and best skit.
The evening before the race begins with the Primavera Party at Tinhorn Creek with a reception among the vineyards. Elegant dining at a long table in the winery’s outdoor amphitheater will include a family-style outdoor summer dinner with friends, featuring local produce and wines.
The Finish Line Party is the ultimate celebration, where at the end of the run everyone will have the chance to toast the start of summer with live music, food trucks and more wine tastings.
Vancouver’s Paella Guys will return to serve up the paella. The event takes place at Oliver Community Park and is open to all.
The evening after the run, Culmina Family Estate Winery will host a Dinner at the Farm which is limited to just 50 guests.
The Half Corked Marathon is sanctioned by BC Athletics and participants must be able to run five kilometers with some grade of incline over uneven terrain to comfortably complete the 24 kilometer route in the allotted time. Transportation is provided to assist guests who do not reach the halfway point before the cut-off time and transfer them to the finish line.
