A new character from Genshin Impact Yaoyao is introduced in a new trailer

Today, Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse revealed a new trailer introducing one of the new characters that will be coming with the first update of 2023.

The new character is Yaoyao of Liyue, Ganyu’s young sidekick who trains alongside Xiangling. She will become available the day the new update launches in the Caution in Confidence wish, along with another new character, the handsome scribe Alhaitham. Interestingly, there will be a second wish titled Invitation to Mundane that will feature her along with Xiao and both will also feature Yun Jin and Xinyan.

Yaoyao is voiced by Kesley Jaffer in English and Mai Kadowaki in the Japanese version (which you can listen to here). You probably know her as Emil in the NieR series, Mahira in Granblue Fantasy, llyasviel von Einzbern in the Fate series, and Rorona in the Atelier Arland series.

You can see Yaoyao in action in the trailer below

“Yaoyao cares about others, no matter who they are. Whether it is her master, elders, friends or passersby, they can all feel her careful care. Please don’t resist her talkative nature. After all, it is very likely that the love and enthusiasm in her heart outweighs the words of her concern.”

The new update, numbered 3.4 and titled “The Exquisite Night Chimes,” arrives on January 18. It also includes new outfits for Lisa & Kamisato Ayaka. Of course, you can expect our coverage of this to continue as the release date approaches.

If you’re not familiar with Genshin Impact, it’s currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. A Nintendo Switch version was announced a long time ago, but HoYoverse went under the radar with it and hasn’t said anything since, despite confirming multiple times that it hasn’t been canceled. We’ll have to wait and see if 2023 will finally be the year of Genshin on a Nintendo console.
