Evidence of illegal drug production found at Kitchener house explosion site: Police

Evidence “consistent with illegal drug production” was seized from the scene of an explosion at a Kitchener home, police said.

The explosion at a house Wednesday night after 11:30 p.m. sent two adults and two children to hospital.

Earlier Friday, police announced that the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office had deemed the explosion “criminal in nature.”

Later Friday, police said a search warrant was executed at the home earlier in the day and evidence was seized.

Emergency crews responded to a townhouse complex in the area of ​​Elm Ridge Drive and Queen’s Boulevard just before midnight Wednesday after receiving reports of a house explosion.

A man and a woman were transported by paramedics to an out-of-area hospital with serious injuries. Two children were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Waterloo Regional Police said the children have been released from the hospital, but the adults remain in hospital at this time.

The fire marshal, Waterloo Regional Police’s General Investigations Unit and the Narcotics and Firearms Unit are continuing to investigate, police said in a news release.

Police said criminal charges are expected as part of the investigation.
