Freedom rally supporters are expected to gather near the southern Alberta border town of Coots on Saturday, and RCMP officials say drivers in the area should expect highway delays.
According to protest organizers, the convoy is expected to include vehicles traveling from a number of cities, including Calgary, Medicine Hat, Claresholm and Lethbridge.
The group says it will “do the Coutts Loop” along Highway 4 before meeting Saturday afternoon in Lethbridge for a barbecue event with speeches.
The gathering, which is also a fundraiser, is in support of the four men — Jerry Morin, Anthony Olynyk, Chris Carbert and Christopher Lisak — who are facing several criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, for their actions at border roadblocks in February 2022 near Coutts. The protests were in response to the COVID-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions related to the pandemic.
