No, there are currently no elections.

And no, Vernon is not part of the federal riding of Kelowna-Lake Country, although there is talk of changing the riding’s provincial boundary to include part of southern Vernon.

But, beyond that, no one is really sure why a campaign sign for Kelowna-Lake Liberal candidate Tim Krupa appeared recently on Okanagan Landing Road in Vernon.

The sign has been sitting on the grassy boulevard outside the Canco station for over a week, and no one seems to know how it got there, including the store employees.

Reached by Castanet, Krupa declined to comment.

His former campaign manager, Curtis Tse, said he suspected someone was trying to play a prank on Krupa or simply found an old sign and put it up as a gag.

“Nothing’s going on,” he said. “And we’re not sure how it got there.”

Castanet has reached out to the Kelowna-Lake Country Liberal Riding Association for any clarity on the matter.

Krupa has been hailed as the Liberal candidate in the 2021 federal election race.

Krupa grew up in Kelowna and currently works in Toronto. During the election he denied being a parachute candidate.

The riding was won by Conservative Tracey Gray.

Its border extends north to Oyama.

The Canada Elections Act does not regulate or prohibit the display of advertising signs outside of the federal election period. However, provincial and municipal laws vary from country to country, with most allowing 72 hours to one week to remove signs after an election.
