The missing teenager in St. John has been found safe, police said

A teenager from St. John, who has been missing since Monday, has been found safe, police said.

In a tweet posted late Wednesday night, St. John’s police said they were “happy to announce” that the teen was safe and more details would follow.

The news follows a tense three days of growing worries and searches.

The 17-year-old has been declared missing after leaving the Samuel de Champlain school in the northern part of the city on Monday afternoon.

Observations put him in the area not far from the school on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Demand intensified in the following days, with a raid carried out Tuesday night shortly before midnight, with residents being asked to inspect all outbuildings on their property and a team of investigators searching homes and the coastline.

The teenager’s family was in Samuel de Champlain during the search, which was joined by several teachers who remained throughout the evening as searchers toured the area around the school.

On Wednesday afternoon, a liturgy in Saint-François-de-Sales was dedicated to the teenager and his safe return.

On Wednesday night, after hearing that he had been found, Father Aaron Knox posted the jubilant news on Facebook and announced that a thanksgiving service would be held at the church on Friday at 6 p.m.
