With the Matt Murray deal finalized and qualifying offers made or not, the offseason space is clear. There is a huge amount. In the offseason that begins Wednesday, the salary cap increases by 10 percent to allow teams to shop around and then adjust their team structure later. The Leafs can go all out in Vegas and sign Claude Giroux and then try to get it done by October 11th when the rosters are official. They won’t, but they could.
A plausible look at next year’s projected roster is what CapFriendly has been listing on their site throughout the offseason. This is a projection, not the cap. The Leafs can make any number of moves between now and October to structure the roster. CF currently only lists 17 players on their roster, so don’t quote the cap listed there as gospel.
