The rumor that Drake was arrested in Sweden turned out to be inaccurate.
Rumors started swirling on social media late Thursday night (July 14) that Drake had been detained by Swedish authorities. According to unconfirmed reports, the rapper and his bodyguard were arrested at a nightclub on marijuana charges. XXL confirmed with a rep for the rap star that the speculation is false.
A video of Drizzy’s plane, the “Air Drake,” landing in Sweden on Wednesday (July 13) has surfaced online. It is not clear why he is in the country.
The Drake hive started going crazy when rumors first started swirling that Drizzy was behind bars, with “Free Drake” trending on Twitter.
“Never thought I’d see the day when free drake is trending ðŸ˜ðŸ˜,” one person tweeted.
“Free drake doesn’t even sound real to say out loud wtf is going on in inna world rn,” someone else asked.
“I fell to my knees in my room, tears streaming down my eyes,” read one of the more extreme tweets about the alleged arrest. “This is worse than my son’s death in 2017. The world will burn if this is true. Now I’m running around covered in blood screaming FREE DRAKE in the streets until God hears me.’
If true, it would be the second time a famous rapper has been arrested in Sweden in the past few years, following A$AP Rocky’s infamous arrest there in 2019, which became an international issue in which then-President Trump intervened.
