HUMBLE, Texas (KTRK) – A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed at a home early Friday morning in Humbbell, and her mother’s boyfriend is accused of her murder.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant. Dennis Wolfford told ABC13 that around 1:05 a.m. a woman called 911 and said her 16-year-old sister was being held captive by her mother’s boyfriend at a Canton Trace Lane house.
When lawmakers arrived, they heard one shot, screams and then a second shot, Wolfford said.
According to the sergeant, a man identified as Van Brisbane left the house and said, “You’re doing the right thing” before being arrested.
Authorities say a 16-year-old girl was killed. She was shot several times.
A man who said he was the teenager’s biological father identified her as Lauren Juma, a 10th grader at Nimetz High School.
According to her father, Lauren wanted to join the army or become a police officer.
He told reporter Charlie Edcy that the man who called 911 was Lauren’s 19-year-old sister.
Lauren reportedly called her mother when things escalated, and her mother was the one who called her older sister. The father’s friend claims that when the sister showed up at the home, the suspect did not let her in, so she called 911.
The sheriff’s office says Lauren and Brisbane were the only two people in the house because the girl’s mother was out of town but returned.
The mother, teenager and suspect all lived in the home.
Deputies say Brisbane did not cooperate and the motive for the murder is unknown.
Brisbane was charged with murder and sentenced to Harris County Jail.
