Meghan Markle makes Kate Middleton cry in bridesmaid battle: book

Despite Meghan Markle’s version of the story, it was the Duchess of Sussex who made Kate Middleton cry during their 2018 courtship spat, not the other way around, a new royal biography claims.

Investigative journalist Tom Bower claimed in his book The Revenge (according to the Daily Mail) that Middleton “broke down in tears” after Markle compared the Duchess of Cambridge’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, “unfavorably to her best friend Jessica Mulroney’s daughter ‘, Isabelle, during a dress fitting ahead of the ‘Suits’ alumnus’ wedding to Prince Harry.

Bower claimed that Markle and Middleton, now 40, disagreed over the length of Charlotte’s hemline or the cut of her dress. They also allegedly disagreed on whether Markle’s bridesmaids “should wear tights’ at the wedding.

The biographer also claimed that Mulroney, 42, and Mulroney’s mother “supported” Markle’s “push” in the Middleton dispute.

Bower’s version of how events unfolded is not the first time claims have been made that Markle upset Middleton.

Media previously reported that Markle made Middleton cry over what Charlotte, now 7, could wear as a flower girl – just days before the former actress walked down the aisle.

Tensions were clearly already high between Cambridge and Sussex at the time and Middleton believes the disagreement was the final straw.

“It was a hot day and apparently there was an argument about whether the bridesmaids should wear pantyhose or not,” a friend of Prince William and Middleton told Tatler magazine in 2020 after Harry and Markle, 37, stepped down from their royal duties and moved to United States. “Kate, following protocol, thought she should. Megan didn’t want that.

However, in a rare move, Kensington Palace released a statement denying the feud had unfolded and saying the Tatler article contained “a series of inaccuracies and false misstatements”.

The following year, Markle addressed the accusation directly, claiming during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that Middleton actually made her cry.

“The opposite happened,” Markle said, reflecting on the wedding barrage during the March 2020 interview. “Everybody in the institution knew it wasn’t true.”

Markle added that she was unsure why no one in the royal family had directly denied reports of a rift between her and her sister-in-law.

Markle also confirmed the row was over flower girl dresses, saying: “It made me cry and really hurt my feelings.

“There was no confrontation,” she insisted. “I don’t think it’s fair to her to go into detail because she apologized and I forgave her.

“It’s been a really rough week since the wedding and she was upset about something, but she owned it and apologized and brought me flowers and an apology note.”

She called Middleton a “good guy” and said she thought the media “really seems to want a hero and villain narrative.”

“If you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t have to hate me,” Markle said.
