Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – Spells, Creatures, and Other D&D Easter Eggs

Dungeons & Dragons Creatures and Realms

This dragon breathes what appears to be black acid as opposed to fire; this could mean that it is an extremely powerful, chaotic evil ancient black dragon that uses an acid breath attack.

It appears to be the Underdark, an underground realm.

A quick shot of a mime, an infamous D&D creature that masquerades as a treasure chest.

Two famous D&D monsters in one shot! Both Displacer Beast and Gelatinous Cube can be seen here.

Although it is difficult to determine the exact color of this dragon, due to its volcanic setting and its breath of fire, it is probably a Red Dragon known as ferocious tyrants.

Dungeons & Dragons spells

The mage appears to be using some sort of defensive spell — probably Force Barrier — to ward off the incoming arrows.

It looks like someone may have used the Heat Metal spell on Michelle Rodriguez’s ax.

It looks like Sophia Lillis’ character can use the Dimension Door spell here.

The wizard casts some kind of lightning spell, which may be Witch Bolt, based on the form.

Based on the sounds heard here, the mage can use a magic missile.

The other wizard teleports through a spell — could it be a case of Misty Step?

Sophia Lillis’ Tiefling character

Most of the characters look human, but based on her horns, Sophia Lillis’ character is probably a Tiefling.

This shows how Lillis’ character transforms from a horse into the much more powerful beast, the Owl Bear. However, it’s worth noting that the Wild Shape ability—the class feature that allows druids to transform into animals—wouldn’t allow transformation into Owlbear, as it’s technically classified as a monster. This could mean that the filmmakers played around with the combat rules a bit, or that a caster just cast Polymorph on her.

The trailer dropped shortly after fans got their first glimpse of its main characters in costume. Stay tuned for everything else announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 as the show continues.
