OTTAWA –
A Conservative panel reviewing the disqualification of Patrick Brown from the Tory leadership race has concluded the party has the evidence it needs to recommend he be removed from the race.
His decision contains new allegations that Brown used money orders to purchase memberships and allowed non-compliant sales of memberships through a portal.
Brown’s legal adviser has lodged an appeal after the party’s leadership election organizing committee voted to remove him based on a recommendation from the chief returning officer.
An appeals dispute resolution panel had to decide whether the employee had the necessary evidence to recommend that Brown be fired.
It said the evidence included allegations that Brown allowed more than 500 non-compliant sales of memberships and used money orders to purchase 265 memberships.
The committee also says Brown offered an “apology” when presented with an allegation that a longtime party organizer was paid to work on his campaign by a third-party corporation.
