A cemetery worker has died digging fresh graves in the Kiev suburb of Bucha as Ukrainians mourn the growing number of victims of the Russian attack with prayers, flowers and toys left in memory of those killed.
A 75-year-old woman, Tetyana Gramushnyak, was killed in a shelling while cooking in front of her home in Bucha. Her body was buried in a grave on Thursday in a purple coffin covered with a cross.
Elsewhere in Bucha, sunlight casts an ominous red glow on the darkened bedroom and the blank expression of 70-year-old Nadia Trubchaninova, who held a portrait of her sons. Oleg and Vadim Trubchaninovi, aged 46 and 48, were killed by Russian soldiers in Bucha, where authorities say more than 400 bodies have been found and the death toll could rise as miners clear the area.

In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, armed servicemen in combat gear detained a man suspected of being a Russian collaborator in a residential building. A woman opened her door with a look of horror on her face when she saw armed figures with helmets holding shields in the hallway. In one apartment, a serviceman took some time to play with a large cat lying on a carpet.
At the Kramatorsk railway station, where more than 50 people were killed and dozens injured earlier this month, flowers and toys decorated a fence in memory of those killed. A Russian missile strike hit the station, as it was crowded with women and children trying to escape.
