Missing Assistant Correctional Assistant Vicki White broke the protocol when she escorted inmate Casey White out of jail this morning to take him to the Lauderdale County Courthouse, Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said. The prisoner and the policeman have no connection.
Authorities said Casey White was arrested on murder charges and two sworn lawmakers had to be with him at all times, including during his transportation to court.
Vicky White coordinates all transportation from custody to court and that’s why she knew the protocol, the sheriff added.
Singleton said that although Casey White was allegedly transported to the courtroom for a mental health assessment, they have since learned that such an assessment or other court hearing is not scheduled for Friday.
“Knowing the prisoner, I think she is in danger, regardless of the circumstances … He was in prison for murder and had nothing to lose,” Singleton said.
Authorities are now looking into all the possibilities, including whether the correction officer helped Casey White escape.
“Whether she helped him or not, we don’t know and we won’t deal with it until we have absolute proof that it happened. At this point, we accept that it was taken against her will, unless we can prove otherwise, “Singleton added.
Authorities said they were still investigating and investigating any interaction between the officer and Casey White, as well as any phone calls he received.
When Vicki White escorted Casey White out of jail, she told security that she would leave him in court and then go to seek medical help because she was not feeling well.
The sheriff said Casey White was never left in court and Vicki White did not get to the place where she said she would seek medical help.
Authorities learned they did not disappear until a few hours later.
Her vehicle, a 2013 Ford Taurus patrol car, was first spotted in a mall parking lot around 11 a.m. by someone who was on a lunch break, Singleton said.
At around 3:30 pm, prison police were worried and tried to contact her, but her phone went straight to voicemail. They then learned that Casey White had not been returned to prison.
Vicki White has been with the department for 25 years and is eligible for retirement – which she has been talking about for the past few months, Singleton added.
“All precautions have been taken. “The question we have for Director White is why she violated politics,” Singleton said.
Casey White is 6’9 “tall. He is considered armed and dangerous. Vicki White was armed with a 9mm pistol, which means we assume he is armed,” Singleton added.
