The nursing shortage may get worse before it gets better.
The health care system across the country is struggling to try to fill positions, including nurses and doctors.
Yvette Coffey, president of the Union of Registered Nurses, says 900 of their members are eligible to retire and with only about 200 nurses graduating this year, we’re going backwards instead of forward.
She says many nurses have only had a few days of vacation in the past few years.
She says we need to keep the people we have in the system and recruit new people. It offers recruitment and retention bonuses, workplace childcare and support for nursing students.
