WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Waukesha Police Department on Friday night, April 29, responded to an incident at a hotel that escalated into a tactical situation. The suspect has been detained.
At around 8:50 p.m., just over two hours after the incident began, the sheriff’s department warned that the situation was “all clear.” Law enforcement remains at the scene, but there is no threat to the public.
FOX6 News arrived at the scene to find a huge response from law enforcement at the Baymont Inn & Suites on Moreland Boulevard near Main Street around 6:45 p.m. People on the second floor were spotted descending the fire truck ladder.

According to Waukesha police, authorities had been notified shortly before 6 pm of a 44-year-old man who was shouting and “described as out of control because someone is at his door”. Prior to police arrival, sheriff’s deputies tried to serve a warrant for the man’s engagement and took him to a mental health facility.
Police had information, according to police, that the man had threatened an employee at a group home. He allegedly said he had a gun and could “visit” the man.

When police arrived at the man’s hotel door and tried to contact him, police said he could be heard saying something like, “I’m going to kill you.” Police then heard a shot, a man “quickly approaching” the closed door of the room, and then a second shot. One of the policemen fired his pistol “to protect himself and the officers” nearby.
A perimeter has been established within the hotel corridor and tactical personnel and other law enforcement agencies have been called. In the end, the suspect was detained without incident. Police say the man has a history of arrest for crimes such as repeated sexual assault on a child, drunken surgery and hooliganism.

Witnesses describe the scene
One witness, who asked not to be identified, told FOX6 that he had been around all day and police told him he was involved in the shooting. Another said he was at the hotel when it all happened.
“I received the warning as I entered the area that there was a situation,” said Carrie Schroeder of Menomony Falls, whose husband was at the hotel. “I make sure it’s good”
Schroeder said she was about to meet her husband when she appeared on stage.

“He said he heard someone say ‘shots.’ He did hear a shot. And I saw a SWAT team on something that looks like an armored truck, “she said.
People in the area received a report of the incident around 6:45 p.m. Police advised the public to stay away from the area. FOX6 spoke to Schröder just after this signal came out. At the last check, her husband was still inside at the time.
“To make sure he’s okay and just to make sure we’re all going to be fine,” Schroeder said.

About 15 minutes later, Brian Schroeder managed to leave the hotel after a police interrogation. He said he heard what he thought was a shot and police told people to stay in their rooms.
“On the edge, to put it mildly,” he said. “I had the feeling that everything stopped and accelerated at the same time.
“I missed the police for only a few minutes. I heard them and I’m just grateful to be healthy and healthy.”
The couple is happy to be clean and reunited.
“The fact that I’m safe is just a great relief,” Brian said.
The Carol University Postgraduate Center, located just behind the hotel, was closed due to the incident.
