Animal Abuse: A man caught on video kicks and hits a dog repeatedly for 15 minutes in Duarte, surrenders

DUARTE, Calif. (KABC) – A man filmed repeatedly hitting and kicking a dog in Duarte turned himself in to authorities on Friday.

The dog was taken to the San Gabriel Valley Humanitarian Society for a medical examination, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The man will be detained until investigators receive the results of this medical examination.

It happened in an isolated storage area in block 1500 on Highland Avenue in Duarte. Residents told ABC7 that it happened in an empty parking lot of an industrial building near Evergreen Street and Santo Domingo Avenue.

Buildings are usually always closed and empty at night.

The man has been seen hitting and hitting the dog many times.

The video also shows the man pulling the dog by the collar until the dog can get out.

At times, the dog tries to escape the beating, but then the man grabs it and hits it again.

“It was just deplorable and actually quite horrifying,” said a Monrovia resident who identified herself to an eyewitness as Gina. “How can you do that to a dog?” It was amazing. It was an isolated batch and it was about 9 pm, but the beating took place and lasted 15 minutes in the video. “

Steve, who is also from Monrovia and did not want to reveal his last name, was almost in tears as he spoke about the incident.

“It’s very awful,” he said. “We need to develop the spiritual life of this planet. We need to realize that we are all relatives, good cousins, with all kinds and other people.”

After about 15 minutes, the suspect was seen getting the dog in a car and walking away.

It seems that the suspect may not have known that there were cameras that filmed the attack.

This surveillance video was published in the local Nextdoor app and reported to the sheriff’s department.

Residents who see the video say they want the man arrested.

“The community is outraged and everyone wants to come in and help and find this suspect,” Gina said.

Investigators are investigating the incident.

The penalty for animal cruelty can include up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $ 20,000.
