The National Weather Service office in Hanford has released a computer model showing where smoke from California’s Oak Fire near Yosemite will spread in the coming days. You can see several models on the weather service’s website and this one showing Wednesday’s forecast on Twitter:

Friday’s pattern shows sooty air moving south from the fire in Mariposa County into the San Joaquin Valley Wednesday afternoon and overnight.
As a ridge of high pressure begins to build over Nevada’s Sierra and Great Basin on Wednesday, winds will shift to the northeast, pushing smoke southwest toward Fresno, Tulare and eastern Kings County. There will be some smoke dispersion in the Tahoe area, but not much, the Hanford office said.
Smoke high in the atmosphere is expected to move into the San Francisco Bay Area later this evening; it will likely result in hazy skies but is unlikely to affect air quality, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said. You may smell smoke in higher places. The district has an air quality advisory in effect until today. Conditions are not expected to be severe enough for an air saver warning.

Smoke from the Oak Fire, which ignited Friday, affected Northern California for several days, moving into the Central Valley, Tahoe and the Bay Area. Yosemite National Park is awash with bitter air, and webcams show the park’s granite monoliths like Half Dome, barely visible and hidden by curtains of smoke.
Firefighters have brought the blaze under control and announced Wednesday morning that containment had risen to 32 percent. The fire has burned 18,751 acres as of this morning.
