A pedestrian has died after being crushed by an SUV in Surrey

A woman in her 20s has died after being hit and pinned under an SUV in Newton.

Surrey RCMP were called to the scene just before midnight Tuesday in the 7400 block of 121A Street. Bystanders at the scene helped the police push the vehicle away from the victim.

British Columbia EMS and Fire Services provided first aid and transported the woman to hospital, where she later died.

The driver and passengers of the SUV remained at the scene. Surrey RCMP say they believe impaired driving is a factor in the crash, although they say the investigation is still in its early stages.

Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) was called in to investigate, along with the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
