The University of Toronto dropped its vaccination requirement this spring, but will require all students living in residence to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 this coming academic year.
The school made the announcement in a memo sent to the university community on Thursday.
It said that while students who are not fully vaccinated are allowed to enroll in classes with attendance components from May 1, the decision has been made to continue to reinstate the mandatory vaccination policy for those who live at residence.
Under the updated policy, all students moving into residence will be required to have completed their core series of vaccinations as well as received a booster dose at least 14 days prior to their arrival on campus.
The school also warns students that the vaccine mandate for attending classes “may be reinstated with little notice.”
“We strongly encourage everyone to stay up-to-date on vaccinations and upload your vaccination records to U of T’s UCheck platform. Keeping updated on the vaccination status of our community will help inform future health and safety planning.” It will also minimize disruption if conditions warrant a reimposition of vaccine requirements,” the memo said.
The University of Toronto also mandated a COVID-19 vaccination for its residents during the last academic year, but adding a booster dose to the requirement is new.
