The chairman of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board says they have no plans to enforce mandatory camouflage requirements.
But Fulvio Valentinis says the school board will continue to support those who decide to wear a mask.
Valentinis says the school board is still following the directive of Ontario’s chief medical officer at the moment.
On Thursday, Acting Windsor-Essex Health Officer Dr Shanker Nesaturai called on provincial and local school boards to reintroduce camouflage requirements.
Dr Nesaturai called for a reduction in COVID-19 transmission in the school system. WECDB President Fulvio Valentinis says they are still following the directive of Ontario’s chief medical officer.
“We are encouraged that Provincial Medical Officer Dr. Moore said that people in Ontario must continue to wear masks in all public places, but any directive to impose masks on schools will have to come from the provincial government.”
WECDB President Fulvio Valentinis says many parents are against mandatory disguise.
“You have parents who are very strongly against mandatory disguise, and it seems that these are most of the calls we receive, but at the same time we receive parents who are worried that we do not have mandatory disguise. So we are receiving calls from both sides on this issue. ”
He says they are closely monitoring the number of absentees.
Windsor Essex County Health reported a 22.7% increase in the high-risk case of COVID 19 from April 4 to April 10.
