A new organization aims to help communities and venues provide sustainable parties in the Gros Morne region.
The Atlantic Healthy Ocean Initiative aims to reduce single-use plastic items such as cups at large gatherings such as festivals, garden parties and weddings.
AHOI provides parties with an alternative to plastic cups by using pelletized aluminum cups that are reusable and recyclable. Event-goers can rent the cup at the beginning and return it at the end for a refund.
The Rocky Harbor Harbor Lights Festival was the first event to offer a sustainable party.

Founder Rebecca Bruchet says the idea came after reviewing a waste management report in March.
She says when they looked at where plastics were a bigger problem, they saw that red solo cups at parties were a bigger problem. Then they started looking for options that could be recycled and reused.
