Murray is silent after the news that the production has been stopped on Searchlight’s Being Mortal. Experts add that Aziz Ansari – who plays the lead role, screenwriter and made his directorial debut with his partner Yuri Henley – was not part of the complaint, nor was Seth Rogen’s college.
Searchlight said it had not commented during the ongoing investigations. Production of the film has been suspended until the next steps are decided, and Murray’s future role is unclear.
The film is based on Atul Gavande’s popular science book Being Mortal: Medicine and What It Matters in the End. The main photos started on March 28 and sources claim that it was halfway before the production was stopped. The plan was for the film to be released in 2023. It is unknown at this time whether the shutdown will affect its release.
Sitting with CNBC at Berkshire Hathaway’s 2022 annual shareholders’ meeting today, Murray revealed his thoughts to Becky Quick. He did not give details of what happened, but instead told how he was dealing with the consequences. Murray describes it as a “difference of opinion” with a woman on set.
“I did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way,” Murray said. “The company, the film studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check everything, to investigate it. and so they stopped production. But for now we are talking and trying to reconcile with each other. I think that is the real problem between our peace. We are both professionals. We like each other’s work. We like each other, I think, and if you can’t really understand and trust each other, there’s no point in continuing to work together or make a film. “
He admitted that he had been spending the time since the production was stopped, doing nothing but thinking about what had happened, adding that “It was quite an education for me.”
“And I have a feeling that if I don’t see that, you know, the world is different from when I was little. You know, what I’ve always thought was funny as a kid isn’t necessarily the same as what’s funny now. Things are changing and times are changing, so it’s important for me to understand that. And I think the most important thing is that it’s best for the other person. I thought about it, and if it’s not best for the other person, it doesn’t matter what happens to me.
Murray said he thought, “How could I misunderstand him? How can I be so inaccurate and so insensitive when you think you are sensitive to some sensitivity that you have had for a long time? So we’re talking about that. I think we will come to terms with that. I am very optimistic about that. “
He added that he was trying to learn from what had happened. “I really think this is a really sad puppy who can’t learn anymore. I don’t want to be that sad dog and I have no intention of that. What would make me happiest would be to put on my boots and both of us to go back to work and be able to trust each other and work in a job that we have both spent a lot of time developing skills and hopefully let’s do something that’s good not only for the two of us, but for a whole team of people, a whole team of filmmakers. and the film studio, too. ”
He also likened his situation to Berkshire Hathaway’s openness to its own mistakes.
“I could not help but contact him. I mean, I see these two brilliant guys who are most proud, in a sense, of their mistakes. ”
