Peel police are investigating after a man allegedly stole a vehicle with a female passenger still inside in Brampton early Sunday morning.
Police said they received a call just before 4 a.m. about a carjacking in the area of Steeles Avenue and Hurontario Street.
Officers were able to make contact with the woman in the vehicle, police said, adding that she informed them of her location.
The vehicle left Brampton and traveled to Halton Region, prompting Peel Police to notify the Regional Police Service.
Police said the vehicle was later stopped near Adamson and Guelph streets in Norval after a pursuit that was partially captured on surveillance video from a nearby convenience store.
Video obtained by CTV News Toronto shows the suspected stolen vehicle turning onto Highway 7 from Winston Churchill Boulevard with sparks flying from its right rear side as a police car follows close behind.
The car hits the curb and stops a few meters away.
“There was a loud bang and a bang and I heard yelling and I decided to go see if anybody needed help,” said area resident Shawn Mailer. “And there were several police officers already on the scene.”
Police said a 32-year-old man was later taken into custody. The passenger has minor injuries.
So far, there is no information on what charges will be brought against the man.
