Tigers 1 Blue Jays 4
When the other team has more errors than hits, you really need to win. And we did. The Tigers committed 4 errors and had 3 hits.
Jose Berrios had a very good day. He went 7 innings allowing just 3 hits, 1 earned run on a home run to Javier Baez (Javier had 3 long flies, just a foul on his first at-bat before he went no matter how hard he tried to walk three balls. The two are shurei), 1 cost and 6 hits.
Jose exited the game in 86 innings. It could probably last longer, but a hot day in Toronto might not stress it out.
Tim Maiza and Jordan Romano (save 24) completed the game.
Offensively, we got another home run from Matt Chapman (his 20th), a two-run homer, in the second inning.
And we have two more in the fifth. Cavan Bijo had one out. A throwing error on the pick-off moved him to second. And Vlad Guerrero doubled it. An out later, Bo Bichette doubled Vlad.
We only had 6 hits. Chapman had two. But Tiger’s four errors helped:
- Robbie Grossman dropped the glove on a Vladimir Guerrero line drive. It was hit very hard, but a major league outfielder should have caught it.
- Baez made two mistakes. A missed catch on Bo’s hit (Bo should have reached second but didn’t run it out) and a throw to first).
- And the wild toss.
