Firefighters are battling a large fire at a popular vacation spot in North Conway, New Hampshire, Saturday afternoon.
Conway police have confirmed that there is an active fire at the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort, located on the White Mountain Highway.
At the moment, the police have no information about the victims.
Road 16 is closed in the area and people have been asked to stand aside to allow emergency services access to the scene.
The resort confirmed in a statement to NBC10 Boston and NECN that a fire broke out in the property on Saturday afternoon, noting that the North Conway Fire Service and partners in the area are working to extinguish the flames.
“Guest safety remains our main focus as we continue to work closely with emergency teams,” a resort spokesman told NBC10 Boston and NECN.
A video posted on Twitter shows flames shooting through the roof and rooms on the second and third floors. Thick black smoke can also be seen rising in the sky from miles away.
There appears to be severe damage to at least part of the hotel. Emergency sirens are heard in the background and people are standing on a grassy hill watching the fire.
A woman who lives two doors down from the inn told NBC10 Boston and NECN that she saw people outside crying with their children.
“It’s just devastating. I mean, so sad,” said Linda Barbic, owner of a bed and breakfast in the area. “It simply came to our notice then. It’s just awful. At the east end of the Red Jacket building, firefighters seem to be coming from all over the city, everywhere, and trying to control it so it doesn’t hit the main building, but sadly, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be possible. “
“I mean, it’s on fire. It’s horrible. It’s devastating, “she repeated. “I’m just shivering. I just feel so sad. The flames are coming out of the windows and the roofs are collapsing. It’s just awful. It’s a horrible sight.”

The North Conway Firefighters Association also confirmed the Red Jacket fire and asked people to avoid the area.
Many crews from surrounding cities in New Hampshire have been called in to fight the huge fire.
The resort is a family refuge in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and is home to Kahuna Laguna, an indoor water park that has been named one of the 10 best indoor water parks in the United States. It was not immediately clear whether the water park was affected by the fire. .
This weekend marks the last days of the week of school holidays in the Granite State.
