Six people are in hospital after an early morning shooting in Ajax.

Shots were fired just after 1 a.m. at a barbecue behind a plaza at 154 Harwood Ave., south of the 401 Freeway.

According to Durham Police, the incident happened during a party at a restaurant.

Although no one was killed, one of the victims was in life-threatening condition, they said. The rest of the injured are out of danger.

The victims were sent to “various hospitals” in the GTA, said Det. Christy McKinnon of the DRPS Criminal Investigations Unit.

In front of the media on the spot on Monday morning, duty insp. Tony Romano said three elderly men and three elderly women were shot. He did not say whether the shooter and the victims knew each other.

Police are looking for a man who fled the scene in a dark-colored four-door vehicle. There is no description for this person at this time.

Officers are currently working to obtain video from the area and want to speak with witnesses.

Forensic experts are also at the scene collecting evidence.
