Slow-moving traffic winds along Coquihalla Highway at Larson Hill on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
Delays are expected throughout the day on the Coquihalla Highway as people return to the Lower Mainland after the BC Day long weekend.
BC Transportation and DriveBC warned early weekend commuters to be prepared for very slow traffic on Monday due to volume combined with ongoing construction.
Adding to the volume are all the people leaving Rockin River Fest, which ended last night in Merritt.
DriveBC has issued a travel advisory for Highway 5 between Merritt and Hope. It said motorists should expect congestion and delays of more than two hours at peak travel times.
REMINDER – #BCHwy5 Travel Advisory in effect between #HopeBC and #Merritt for heavy traffic expected today. Expect traffic jams and delays of over 2 hours during peak travel times. #Coquihalla #LongWeekend More info: pic.twitter.com/5e3UNMCTXy

Highway 3 was suggested as a possible alternate route from the Okanagan, but the Keremeos Creek wildfire is burning near Highway 3A, so that could cause delays between Kaleden and Keremeos.
