The San Diego Padres have acquired superstar outfielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell from the Washington Nationals, according to MLB Network’s John Morosi.
The Nationals will get left-hander McKenzie Gore, shortstop C.J. Abrams, outfielders Robert Hassel III and James Wood, right-hander Jarlin Susanna and one other big leaguer in the deal, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Eric Hosmer is believed to be that major leaguer, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
Hosmer must give his go-ahead to move the deal forward because he has the Nationals on his no-trade list, Morosi reports.
Hearing #Padres 1B Eric Hosmer isn’t thrilled about being traded to the #Nationals so he’ll likely take some of the money or maybe an extra year added to his already onerous 8-year $144M deal (3 years left $39 million , through 2025) to get him to sign the deal.

However, the blockbuster trade will happen anyway, sources told Heyman.
Soto, the 2021 NL MVP runner-up, slashed .291/.427/.537 with 118 home runs, 108 doubles, 460 walks and 357 RBI over five seasons with the Nationals.
Bell, meanwhile, slashed .301/.384/.493 with 14 homers and 57 RBI in 103 games this season for Washington.
Abrams is the Padres’ No. 1 prospect, Hassell is No. 2, Wood is No. 4 and Susanna is No. 10, according to Baseball America. Abrams has gone deep twice and owns a .605 OPS in 46 games with the Padres during the 2022 campaign – his first in the big leagues.
Gore is a top former prospect who had a solid rookie season before going down with an elbow injury. The 23-year-old has amassed a 4.12 FIP with a 9.3 K/9 in 70 innings (13 starts).
