A father and daughter are killed when a vehicle cuts a fire hydrant, crashes into a pole in La Mirada

LA MIRADA, Calif. (KABC) – A father and daughter were killed Saturday morning when their car cut a fire hydrant and crashed into a pole in La Mirada, knocking down power lines and leaving the vehicle disfigured beyond recognition, authorities said.

The signal for the violent collision was just before 8 am near the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue and Beach Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Other vehicles were not involved.

A gray Chrysler 300 driven by one of the victims of the crash was moving east on Rosecrans Avenue at high speed when its driver lost control and crashed, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said that the two passengers, both adults, were thrown out of the car by the force of the collision and died on the spot.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and found that an electric pole with high-voltage power lines had been torn down during the accident. The cut-off fire hydrant initially made it difficult for emergency services to access the victims, a spokesman for the fire department said.

The deceased was later identified as a father and daughter, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Their names and ages were not disclosed immediately.

A news video from the scene shows sheriff investigators examining the wreckage of the overturned car.

Edison teams from Southern California were on site to repair and restore the power pole.

It is not known whether alcohol and / or drugs played a role in the crash. The causes of the collision are still being clarified, LASD reported.

Anyone with information about this investigation is invited to call the Norwalk LASD station at (562) 863-8711. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
