RCMP confirm the occupant of an RV involved in a fire in Lake Mabel on Sunday died the next day.

North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Neal Boddy says police responded to the Mabel Lake Resort around 12:45 am

“Police and BC EMS attended the scene where a witness was providing first aid to the passenger in the trailer,” Boddy said.

The 50-year-old Lake Country woman was taken from the scene by ambulance to receive further medical attention.

The woman died on Monday.

“The circumstances leading to the woman’s death are under investigation, but based on the findings of the initial investigation, no foul play is suspected,” Boddy said.

The British Columbia Coroner’s Office is conducting an independent and concurrent fact-finding investigation to determine how, where, when and by what means the victim died.

Three RVs were destroyed in a propane tank fire at Mabel Lake Resort over the long weekend.

Community residents drove their own fire engine to battle the flames in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“There is no fire department. Just a group of great people who came together,” says Doug McMiniman, who drives the truck.

He said the efforts to put out the flames had been “an incredible job done by residents and visitors”.

The fire was contained within three RV lots in less than 15 minutes.

“An incredible achievement by a group of ordinary men and women,” says McMiniman.
